Dallas, Texas – Be A Blessing Day” (BABD) is an initiative that was created to bring joy and spread love to those in need on a day that was created to celebrate love- Valentine’s Day.
The beneficiary of BABD is Genesis Women’s Shelter , an organization that is committed to preventing violence by raising the level of community awareness regarding the pervasiveness and effects of domestic violence. The organization provides shelter, safety, counseling, and expert services to battered women and their children.
In the past, BABD has partnered with Dallas Based Resource Center for the Homeless, The Stewpot for its Valentine Day projects. Since its inception, BABD has created over 1,000 Love Bags for people in Need. For this year’s event, BABD will be creating more than 200 love bags for the ladies of Genesis Women’s Shelter. Love bags are gift bags filled with necessary toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, lotion and other toiletries as well as bibles and candy. 200 + love bags will be distributed to the ladies on Valentine’s Day. In honor of BABD’s 4th Annual celebration, the organization will be collecting purses to fill with toiletries for the women of Genesis Women’s Shelter.
For its 2016 event, the founders of BABD, Jennifer Onwumere and Mario Ezeh, have also partnered with popular social group Singles and the City. Singles and The City, founded by Stephanie Johnson, is a highly patronized social organization that provides exciting spiritual, social and community events and activities for young millennial urbanites and professionals. This year’s event will take place at Henderson Tap House, a popular food and social restaurant destination located in the popular Uptown Dallas district on February 13th. The event is open to the public and will take place from 11am-3pm.
“I feel that this event is tremendously necessary” said event founder, Jennifer Onwumere. “As people, we provide for those in need on Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is amazing, but we often times forget about them on a day that they need to feel love. What better day than Valentine’s Day to show them that they are loved and that there is hope?”
